If you sold your home within the past 4 years, you may be eligibile to receive a refund for the transfer tax paid to the State of Michigan if you qualify for an exemption under MCL 207.526.  This is known as the State Real Estate Transfer Tax (SRETT) refund and is typically about 1% of the selling price of your home.  For example, if your home sold for $200,000, you could get back a refund of $2,000!

Here are the requirements in order to qualify for the refund:

  • Seller occupied the property as their principle residence at the time the property was sold.
  • The property's State Equalized Value (SEV) at the time the property was sold was equal to or less than at the date of purchase. This is very common now due to the plummeting real estate values of the 2008 "Great Recession".
  • The sale price was the result of a "arms length" negotiation between the buyer and seller, where each party bargains for their own self-interest.

We charge a fraction of the cost that most law offices charge to provide this service and you don't have to pay until you receive your refund check.  Call today for more details!
